Chemical characterization and physical and biological activities of rhamnolipids produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa BN10.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa BN10 isolated from hydrocarbon-polluted soil was found to produce rhamnolipids when cultivated on 2% glycerol, glucose, n-hexadecane, and n-alkanes. The rhamnolipids were partially purified on silica gel columns and their chemical structures elucidated by combination of one- and two-dimensional 1H and 13C NMR techniques and ESI-MS analysis. Eight structural rhamnolipid ho...
متن کاملPhysicochemical Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Nanosilver Containing Hydrogels
Silver ion has been used for centuries to prevent and treat a variety of diseases and infections. In recent years, extensive studies have been undertaken on the use of antimicrobial properties of silver, incorporated within medical devices. The aim of this study was to prepare a formulation containing silver ion, which could be applied for wound dressing. The purity of nanosilver was measured b...

متن کاملRHAMNOLIPIDS PRODUCED BY PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA GROWN ON ^-PARAFFIN (MIXTURE OF C12, ds AND Cu FRACTIONS)
Two kinds of glycolipids (R-l and R-2) were produced in the culture media by several strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa when grown on nparaffin (mixture of C12, C13. and Cu fractions). These compounds were isolated through the extraction of the culture broth with ethylacetate and the chromatography on silicic acid column. On the basis of chemical analysis, these lipids were characterized as 2-O-...
متن کاملPseudomonas aeruginosa rhamnolipids disperse Bordetella bronchiseptica biofilms.
We have previously reported that the respiratory pathogen Bordetella bronchiseptica can form biofilms in vitro. In this report, we demonstrate the disruption of B. bronchiseptica biofilms by rhamnolipids secreted from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This suggests that biosurfactants such as rhamnolipids may be utilized as antimicrobial agents for removing Bordetella biofilms.
